Day 2: Okla@#$%^homa!!

Woke up in Little Rock this morning and it was 94 degrees! 94! At 9 AM! Consider this. I am out of shape and have been eating nothing but greasy burgers and fries for the past week. By the time I loaded the car, I had effectively taken two showers in 20 minutes. The second one tasted a lot saltier.

Today was a long, painful day of driving. One road and mostly one state. Oklahoma may be the OK state but it just about sucks to drive through. Beautiful countryside, but that is about it. Enough to bore you to death. Not much more to say. We stopped at the Texas state sign and took pictures because Elizabeth said so. We ate McDonalds and Arby’s because it was easy and we listened to a bad sports radio station in Oklahoma because there was nothing else to do. The host claimed that Albert Pujols got robbed last year in the NL MVP. That pretty much solidified my opinion of this hack because any self respecting Philadelphian knows that Ryan Howard had better numbers (mostly) and Philly had a better record at seasons end. Nuff said!

Anyway, we are now in Amarillo, Texas (wherever the hell that is). We are about to go get something to eat and god forbid find a wireless connection somewhere to post these blogs. We’ll get the pics up ASAP. Tomorrow we are on to Flagstaff. Hope the drive has some good sights or at least a curve in the road. We miss everyone.

Lyrics for: By the Time I Get to Phoenix

By the time I get to Phoenix she'll be rising
She'll find the note I left hangin' on her door
She'll laugh when she reads the part that says I'm leavin'
'Cause I've left that girl so many times before

By the time I make Albuquerque she'll be working
She'll prob'ly stop at lunch and give me a call
But she'll just hear that phone keep on ringin'
Off the wall that's all

By the time I make Oklahoma she'll be sleepin'
She'll turn softly and call my name out loud
And she'll cry just to think I'd really leave her
Tho' time and time I try to tell her so
She just didn't know I would really go.

Glenn Campbell, 1967. Written by Jimmy Webb who also wrote "Macarthur Park," Wichita Lineman, "The Worst Thing That Could Happen..." Anyway, Campbell got a Grammy that year
