Fame, Fortune, and Mike Brady

So it finally happened. It took about 7 months but it finally happened. I have never been more relieved as the anticipation was almost too much to bear. Searching and stalking didn't make it happen. Careful planning failed miserably. Finally, it was sheer luck that prevailed. Thank God! Elizabeth finally met a famous person!

My close friend Mike Brady came to visit about 3 weeks ago. He couldn't bring Greg because Greg was still freaked out about the whole Tiki doll thing. Anyway, Mike came on a Thursday and stayed until Monday. We spent the majority of his visit on the beach catching up and making Corona commercials. The usual.

We also hit a few spots that Mike had heard about, like Hanauma Bay, Dukes, the North Shore. It was great to see him and since he lives in California he has no excuse to not come back. One of the highlights of his trip here was a visit to a popular, semi-famous club in Waikiki called The W. This is where the aforementioned magic happened. About 3 hours (we stayed for about 6!) and several beers in Elizabeth's celeb-sense began to tingle. She got giddy and could feel the presence of fame through her spine. She quickly spotted 2 very large men about 3 feet from the bar and her glare seemed to part their massive torsoes. Through the gap she saw a man whom she new was famous but couldn't understand why he seemed so....small. The man was tiny. About 5'6". And thus the aura of David Beckham was shattered.

He truly was that small. And his frame truly did destroy some of his celebrity mistique. But that did not stop Elizabeth from walking straight up to him (that is after she asked one of the bodyguards if it was "really him!" ) so she could finally talk to a celebrity. After all the build-up and anticipation, after all the wishing and dreaming, after all the preparation, she walked up to the most famous soccer player on Earth and said....... "so your kids really like Harry Potter, huh?" Harry Potter?! Harry Potter?! Just so everyone understands, I am not implying that asking about his kids is a bad thing. But maybe knowing their reading habits could freak him out a bit. And I am not implying that he doesn't know he is tabloid fodder. But now he knows Elizabeth is a fodder junkie. Beautiful.

The 3 weeks that followed were largely uneventful until our neice, Evelyn Cait Hogan, was born on Wednesday, March 12. She is a much needed female in an otherwise male dominated Hogan family (with the exception of my cousin Beth). We can't wait to see her and hold her. We leave for Philly in 5 days and expect to see her, and our 2 nephews, as often as possible.

Clarification editing by Elizabeth: I simply said, "I saw an adorable picture of your sons all dressed up in their Hogwarts gear"..."They were so cute". He thanked me and shook my hand. I had on heels and felt like a giant...literally towering over him! His bodyguard would not allow photos...believe me I had my camera out and ready. The whole LA Galaxy team was here for the Pan Pacific soccer tournament. I did not come across as the dork my husband makes me out to be...I don't think...okay, maybe a little bit?

Our Favorite Superdelegate Speaks up!

Yes, after phone calls from Bill Clinton and Obama, mom finally gifted her superdelegate vote to Obama. I think it was hard for her because she really respects both candidates, but Georgia overwhelmingly voted for Obama in their primary and mom wants to respect that vote. The issue of November electability and what candidate would turn out greater numbers in Georgia were other big factors. Good Job, mom!

Press release follows...

GEORGIA DEMOCRATIC PARTY CHAIR JANE KIDD ENDORSES BARACK OBAMA
Kidd is latest Georgia Superdelegate to Back Obama

Chicago, IL – Today, Georgia Democratic Party Chair and Superdelegate Jane Kidd endorsed Barack Obama.

Chairwoman Kidd said, "I think Democrats are blessed to have two great candidates in the race. In the end, I think it's important that, as Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia, my vote reflect the clear preference of Georgia Democrats.

"I was very impressed by the grassroots organization that Senator Obama's campaign created here in Georgia. In Georgia, we're making grassroots voter contact our top priority in 2008, and I'm convinced that Senator Obama shares our dedication to neighbor-to-neighbor contact. I strongly believe that having Senator Obama as our nominee puts Georgia into play, and I know that, as the nominee, he will invest in our efforts to turn Georgia blue this year."

Senator Barack Obama said, "I am proud to have Chair Kidd's support. She has spent a lifetime working to strengthen the Democratic Party and bring new voters into the political process. She is doing an excellent job leading the Party in Georgia and I look forward to working with her to bring about real change for families in Georgia and across the country."

Life's A Beach!

We have been blessed with about 6 straight weeks of beautiful, tropical weather! Blue skies and 85 degrees everyday! Needless to say, we have become beach bums. We took a few pics. at Waimanalo Beach last week on one of the rare occasions that we took Jersey Girl with us. She LOVES going, but can sometimes ruin the peace for us and other beachgoers (can a dog dig up an entire beach?). This happened to be a random Tuesday afternoon and we were basically all alone on the beach, so she lived it up!
